18th Century Dutch Delft Blue Faience plate

18th Century Dutch Delft Blue Faience plate

coming soon

A beautiful 18th-century Dutch Delft very large plate, hand-painted in cobalt blue on a white tin-glazed earthenware body, dating to approximately 1760–1780. This generously sized decorative plate exemplifies the enduring elegance of Delft pottery, whose distinctive blue-and-white decoration was inspired by Chinese export porcelain while developing its own unmistakably Dutch character.

The center is decorated with a richly painted overflowing floral urn, featuring stylized blossoms and scrolling foliage executed in varying shades of cobalt blue. The painter skillfully combined bold brushstrokes with delicate line work, creating remarkable depth and movement within the composition. A finely executed border of alternating feather motifs and geometric cross-hatching frames the design, giving the plate a balanced and highly decorative appearance.

Visible around the rim are the characteristic signs of age that collectors appreciate: small glaze losses and minor edge wear reveal the earthenware body beneath, serving as honest evidence of more than two centuries of history. The plate is fitted with discreet wire hangers, allowing it to be displayed immediately as wall decoration.
